 Why must 恭喜 when pass Chinese new year?

  2. Nope... haha. I just learn this on Lunar 29.. the reason ppl wish you 恭喜 (Gong Xi) which means, you have past thru all the challenge last year. and you are ready to face on next new challenge which is more difficult.

    In Chinese wording same pronunciation almost caring out same meaning. So they treat 节(Festival) as 劫(calamity). and you have past thru all the 节日(劫) now you are in the end of stage. so they GONG XI to you... meaningful?

  3. Wow... Now only I know... Mandarin is always so powerful :D

    So... If a person getting married, we normally say "今天是你的大节(劫)日"…… =.=" No wonder nowadays more and more people don't want to get married...
